The Story Behind the Name
ARTEflorum, Inc. is a leading wholesaler of floral decor for the home, well known in the catalog, retail, and televised home shopping industries for its unique styling, high quality products, and reliability. It all began in a small San Francisco garage on the corner of Filbert and Franklin where George de Bruin, AIFD began assembling his first designs for sale in 1990. It was George's dream to manufacture Art for the home using floral materials, hence our name - ARTEflorum.
The son of a Dutch florist, George began wiring, arranging and selling flowers at the age of 10, assisting his father in all aspects of running the family business in Leeuwarden, Holland. After attending 4 years of horticultural school and earning his prestigious Master Degree from the Utrecht Academy of Art and Floral Design, he furthered his education in England before moving to Los Angeles to design for the Stars. One highlight included a holiday party on Rodeo Drive during which George and his colleagues created a white Christmas in Beverly Hills, complete with snow falling from the balcony. Ready for new creative challenges, he relocated to San Francisco where he launched his own business.
Moving beyond the infant garage stage, George has made four moves to accommodate ARTEflorum's rapidly growing business now located in South San Francisco. With long-established partnerships in Asia, George and his in-house design team now combine their 80-plus years of experience in the floral and gift industry to design and manufacture beautiful, timeless, and affordable designs for the home.
Smaller retailers enjoy the variety and affordability of our extensive product lines, and larger catalog companies, department stores, and home shopping networks appreciate our ability to personally develop products for their target customers. When asked about our customized design process, George explains: Each customer is unique. For each design we start from scratch. We work until we find the right combination of color, form, feeling, and cost.
